Greek Church2006mixed media on canvas36"x 24"

The picture was made on Santorini Island during my stay in the summer of 2006. There is Greek news paper on the base and layers of house paint washes on top giving the picture an over all airy quality. I used cement to attach the objects like the flowers and the two mother of pearl medallions (that came off of my sandals). Sand is attached to the wall and gives it a grit texture much like the actual texture you can feel on the walls around this church. There is also leather string framing the arch ways.  So much of the sculpted parts are not visible in this photograph. On the left white wall  is a partially visible military tank from the news paper beneath and on the right top there are priests discussing their faith. The few people that have seen it have given me vastly different interpretations of what it means to them....
